01 — The math

What does each one
actually cost?

SoundSeeder is free to start, but the free version caps how many speakers you can add, unlocking the rest takes a paid upgrade, and it's built for Android first. Here's the honest picture, side by side with Home Audio Sync.

SoundSeeder · real cost
Free*
to start · with a speaker cap
The free version caps how many speakers can join
A paid Premium purchase to lift the speaker cap
The Player app plus a Speaker app on every device
Android-first — iPhone support is limited

*Free to start; unlocking the speaker cap and hosting from Spotify (Premium) are extra.

Home Audio Sync · all-in
$0–$15/mo
no device cap · no extra music subscription
Free tier: 2 hours/month, a 20-song catalog, no cap on devices in a room
Plus $5/mo or Pro $15/mo — that's the whole bill

02 — Why people look for an alternative

Five friction points we hear,
over and over again.

SoundSeeder is a capable multi-speaker player, and on an all-Android setup it works well. These are the parts that send people looking for something lighter and more universal.

The install wall 01

A Player app and a Speaker app on every device.

Getting a room going means installing the right app on each device — the Player on the host, the Speaker on everything else — and keeping them updated. Home Audio Sync guests open a link or scan a QR code in the browser they already have. Nothing to download.

Android-first 02

iPhone users are second-class.

SoundSeeder grew up on Android, and mixed households feel it — the iPhones and iPads in the room don't get the same experience. Home Audio Sync runs in the browser, so an iPhone, an Android tablet, and a Windows laptop all join the same room the same way.

Speaker cap 03

The free version limits how many can join.

Try to add more than a couple of speakers and the free tier asks you to pay to unlock the rest. Home Audio Sync's free tier puts no cap on how many devices join a session — the limits are on time and catalog size, not the size of your room.

Setup fiddliness 04

Pairing speakers and wiring up sources.

Adding speakers, pointing at a DLNA server, and connecting a music source takes some tinkering. Home Audio Sync is open-a-room, drag-in-music, scan-a-code — a device is playing in about ten seconds.

Music source 05

You bring the source — and pay for it.

To stream from Spotify you still need Spotify Premium; otherwise you're managing local files. Home Audio Sync plays your own uploads and YouTube directly, with no extra streaming subscription in the mix.

04 — Why we built it

A note from the person who built this.

I wanted to fill a room with sound using the devices people already had in their pockets — no app to install, no platform to be on, no subscription to feed it. The tools that existed all wanted everyone on the same OS, running the same app, before anyone could press play.

So I built one that lives in the browser. You open a room, drag in your music, and anyone can scan a QR code on any phone — iPhone or Android — to lock into the same audio stream. It plays directly through the browser, nothing to download.

Getting the synchronization right was the hard part, and there are still rough edges — TVs and Bluetooth devices are tricky. But for anything that loads and plays quickly, it's seamless. It's mostly for listening to your own music, with YouTube integration for tracks you don't own.

05 — Common questions

Questions people switching from SoundSeeder
have already asked.

SoundSeeder is an Android-first app with a separate Player and Speaker app that sync over your local network. Home Audio Sync runs in any browser with nothing to install, works the same on iPhone, Android, laptops, and TVs, and plays your own library plus YouTube. Devices on the same network join a room by opening a link or scanning a QR code.
No. SoundSeeder centers on Android and asks you to install its Player and Speaker apps. Home Audio Sync runs in whatever browser a device already has — iPhone, Android, laptop, or smart TV — with nothing to download and no account required to join.
Within a few tens of milliseconds — close to perceptual perfection for music. TVs and Bluetooth speakers add their own latency and are the hardest case; phones, tablets, and laptops on the same network sync seamlessly.
SoundSeeder plays local files, Spotify (which needs Spotify Premium), and DLNA/UPnP media servers. Home Audio Sync is built around your own library plus YouTube, with no separate music subscription. Native streaming integrations are on the roadmap.
